Two suspended police constables and their friend were caught by the Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar police on Sunday for allegedly extorting money from motorists. Another constable involved in the crime is absconding.
The constables – P. Valeshwar Rao, B. Narayana Swamy and Vishnu – were placed under suspension while they were posted at Andhra Pradesh Special Police (APSP) wing. Rao belongs to seventh battalion of APSP, while Swamy to 11 battalion and Vishnu to 12 battalion. The trio was suspended on charges of dereliction of duties, said Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar Sub-Inspector C. Sudershan Reddy.
They along with their friend Ravi Kumar, a private employee, were posing as crime police team and checking vehicles at Motinagar. They intercepted a motorcyclist Surendra while he was retuning home at B.S. Maktha after meeting his friend in Borabanda. They asked him to show his vehicle documents. When he was trying to show them submit documents, they snatched his wallet and took away his money and cards.

A few minutes later, they left the premises asking Surendra to come to Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar police station to collect documents. The accused also took down his mobile phone number before leaving the place. They again called him up and asked him to collect his wallet at Mehdipatnam after paying Rs.10,000 as bribe.
Surendra told them that he could not pay the amount but the latter threatened him stating that they would buy a mobile phone by submitting his vehicle documents as ID proof and harass girls by calling them frequently. This would land Surendra in trouble. Panicked over this, he approached the Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar police and lodged a complaint.
The police went to Mehdipatnam and nabbed Rao, Swamy and Kumar, Mr. Reddy said. A car, Rs.5,000 in cash and other documents were recovered from them. A hunt is on to trace Vishnu.
