The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) is expected to complete the survey of defence land in another six months, with officials finalising JNTU-Hyderabad for the job.
The survey includes topography mapping, procuring satellite images, geo-tagging plot locations and preparing geospatial database and maps.
The survey and fixing of boundary pillars has been pending since 2011 as the SCB was unable get an agency to implement the project.

Earlier, the Survey of India (SoI) was approached, but it fell through when the quotation was Rs.90 lakh to complete only a part of the work.
JNTU-H has quoted a price of Rs.1,400 an acre and also promised to take up additional work, including the preparation of a geospatial database and updated maps of defence lands.
“The project includes high-resolution maps that can give us finer details of structures within SCB limits. For instance, we can even see pillars of a construction site through the 3D maps,” the SCB president, Brigadier Sunil S. Bodhe, told the board meeting.

The meeting also decided to approach the State Gover-nment to waive arrears owed to HMWSSB. Newly-elected Cantonment MLA G. Sayanna was urged to take up the issue with the Water Board. The SCB has spent close to Rs.20 crore to lay drinking water pipelines between Mahindra Hills and Karkhana. To provide individual connections to houses along this stretch, a sum of Rs.2 crore has to be paid to the Water Board. “We are also paying nearly Rs.2 crore worth of water bill arrears. So if the amount is waived, it would be of great help,” SCB CEO Sujata Gupta said.
The board also passed the proposal to set up a solar power plant in the SCB area to power its needs.
