Summoned by police, man dies of cardiac arrest

58-year-old Satyanarayana, who died of cardiac arrest, was accused of cheating a contractor

A 58-year-old businessman accused of cheating, died of cardiac arrest after being summoned to Chaderghat police station for investigation on Tuesday. C. Satyanarayana walked into the police station around noon, accompanied by his son Gautham. Within minutes, he developed chest pain and collapsed on the ground.

Police rushed him to a nearby private hospital, where he died half-an-hour later. Doctors said he died of cardiac arrest.

Tension prevailed at the police station after relatives of the businessman and locals gathered there alleging police excesses. However, police dispersed them and shifted the body to the Osmania General Hospital for autopsy. The body was then handed over to relatives.

East Zone DCP Shahnawaz Qasim said a case was registered against Satyanarayana a few months ago after a contractor Kishore Kumar lodged a complaint, alleging that he collected Rs. 12 lakh by showing fake work orders related to the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).

He said Satyanarayana had complained of health problems twice in the past.

“He has a record of heart disease and complained of chest pain as soon as he came to the police station. The doctors tried their best to revive him but he died,” the DCP told the reporters.
