Complaints poured in about internet disconnection in locations surrounding Gachibowli since Tuesday afternoon, thanks to GHMC’s overdrive to remove cable wires hanging from electric poles without any notice.
On Wednesday too, despite taking up damage control measures in a minor way, the officials could not restore connections to all. Various IT companies suffered due to this, and some of them complained to Minister for IT, Municipal Administration and Urban Development K.T. Rama Rao, on Twitter.The cable wires were removed with the help of cranes, during the visit by zonal commissioner D. Harichandana and deputy commissioner Mamatha, to the pet park under construction near the Jayabheri Enclave adjacent to the DLF IT corridor.
As per local sources, the wires were removed to shift the electric poles ahead of inauguration of pet park. While the cable service providers were not authorised to use electricity poles to hang the wires, many companies suffered loss of business on two days due to the removal. “GHMC has disconnected Internet cables today at Jayabheri enclave (Gachibowli, Hyderabad) without any notice, Internet dependent business was impacted, with unplanned downtime. Huge impact on Business. Please take necessary action on this (sic),” tweeted Kiran Reddy Vuppula to Mr. Rama Rao and GHMC Commissioner on Tuesday, along with the pictures of cable removal and shifting of poles.

Sanjeev Pratinidhi, another IT professional, tweeted to the GHMC Commissioner and GHMCOnline saying, “Sir, our office in Gachibowli has just lost connectivity due to some works that has cut off Internet cables! Sorry, but I don’t get why this has been planned on a weekday, and why there was no warning? Is there an ETA for completion?”
However, when enquired, West Zone Commissioner D. Harichandana said she was not aware of such works, and added that it could have been done by the Electricity department. She pointed out that a few underground line laying works by internet service providing companies were obstructed on Tuesday, as no road cutting permissions were given after May 24. Cases were filed against two persons nabbed on the spot, she said.
