Students take to streets demanding mid-day meal

TRS has failed to deliver on its promise: PDSU

Students from government junior colleges and PDSU activists taking out a rally in Khammam on Monday.

Students from various government junior colleges in the district took to the streets here on Monday under the banner of PDSU district committee in protest against the alleged failure of the TRS government in delivering on its promise of introducing mid-day meal in government junior colleges across the State.

Holding banners, the student activists marched through the main streets of the town and held a demonstration near the Collectorate to highlight their long-pending demands.

Addressing the participants of the dharna, PDSU State president J. Srinivas came down heavily on the State government for allegedly neglecting the plight of thousands of students from weaker sections studying in government junior colleges, devoid of proper infrastructure.

“The ruling dispensation is focussing its attention on constructing buildings for the legislators and persons at the helm, while remaining apathetic towards the grievances of students of the State-run colleges and hostels,” he said.

He demanded that the government implement the mid-day meal scheme as promised nearly three years ago at all the 404 government junior colleges in the State without further delay.

PDSU State vice-president Sharath alleged that the junior colleges and hostels were functioning from dilapidated buildings in Madhira, Sattupalli, Nelakondapalli and various other mandals.

He sought expeditious construction of the new buildings to ensure safe and conducive atmosphere for students to excel in their academic pursuits.
