The installed capacity of solar power generation in State has increased to 2,275 MW from the 48 MW capacity at the time formation of the State, making it one of the leading States in solar energy, Chairman and Managing Director of TS Power Generation Corporation D. Prabhakar Rao has said.
In a meeting with the officials of Power Finance Corporation (PFC), which has recently agreed to arrange ₹4,009 crore loan required for the execution of the fifth unit of the 5×800 MW Yadadri ultra mega power plant in Nalgonda district, held here on Monday Mr. Rao said they discussed the next course of action with regard to availing the sanctioned loan.
Executive Directors P.K. Singh (Projects) and R. Chandrasekharan (Finance) of PFC, Joint MD of Transmission Corporation of Telangana Ltd C. Srinivasa Rao, Directors T. Jagath Reddy (Transmission) and J. Surya Prakash (Lift Irrigation Schemes) and others attended the meeting.

Mr. Rao said that TS-Genco was executing power projects with 6,000 MW installed capacity at a cost of ₹40,000 crore, provided as loan by PFC and Rural Electrification Corporation (REC). He also said that two public sector companies were providing loans at 9.65% interest as against 10.5% generally charged by finance firms to power companies TS-Genco would save about ₹400 crore on this count . Turning to solar power generation he said agreements for supply on 374 MW power were in place when Telangana State came into being and later tenders were called and agreements were signed for another 2,903 MW solar power. The Genco had an action plan for taking up the solar power generation capacity to 5,000 MW soon, he noted.
On wind power generation, Mr. Rao said a study by the National Institute of Wind Energy had indicated that there was potential for generation of 4,500 MW wind power in the State and erstwhile, Medak, Rangareddy and Mahabubnagar districts had been identified as suitable areas for wind power generation. They would announce a new wind power policy soon, he added.
