Six structures chosen for INTACH awards

Noted heritage structures in city were chosen for this year’s Indian National Trust of Art and Culture (INTACH) Heritage Awards-2014.

Structures with historical leanings selected for INTACH heritage awards were Dargah Shah Raju at Misri Gunj, Air Force Station in Begumpet, Daira Mir Momin in Sultan Shahi, Keyes High School for Girls in Secunderabad, Mehedi Manzil in Banjara Hills and State Department of Archaeology and Museums at Gunfoundary. The INTACH Heritage Citation-2014 was given to Parampara Heritage Club, St. Ann’s College for Women, Mehdipatnam.

The jury comprised principal, Deccan School of Architecture and Planning, Nasir. S. Qureshi and former chairman of Nizam’s trust, Shahid Hussain. “The focus this year was on cultural assets with strong links to personalities, events and movements of our past,” INTACH officials said.

INTACH convener Anuradha Reddy made a picture presentation on the historical importance of Hyderabad and also displayed different heritage sites in Karnataka and Maharashtra, that were once a part of the erstwhile Deccan. INTACH co-convener Sajjad Shahid said that the entire event was to create awareness among the youngsters to protect their heritage.
