Muneer Deshmukh, ex-national secretary of the outlawed Students' Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), who was arrested by the Madhya Pradesh police earlier, has been brought to the city on Thursday in a case of impersonation.
Deshmukh, hailing from Bhopal, lived in YG Apartments at King Kothi here five years ago and obtained documents with the fictitious name of Muneer Ahmed. He was married and had three children, Abids ACP, Limba Reddy, said.
A post-graduate, the accused had worked with Orbit Company at Liberty for some time before floating another company called Novel Technologies Private Limited, which was into training and placement in the IT sector. During this period, he opened an account with HDFC Bank and secured LPG connection, driving licence and mobile phone SIM cards, all in the name of Muneer Ahmed.

He was arrested by the Anti-Terrorism Squad of Bhopal on a tip-off in November, 2010. On learning about the accused securing documents with a fake name, the Narayanaguda police registered a case in July this year under Sections 177 (furnishing false information) and 419 (cheating by impersonation) of the Indian Penal Code against him. He was brought here on prisoner transit warrant and remanded in judicial custody. The Narayanaguda police will take him into custody for interrogation to gather evidence in the case.
