Shortfall in power supply forces shutdowns

December 20, 2013 11:25 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 09:01 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Power cuts in mandal headquarters range from 4 to 5 hours and in the municipalities from 2 to 3 hours

Power cuts of varying durations have been imposed on mandal headquarters and municipalities within the purview of the Central Power Distribution Company Limited (CPDCL) for the last two days, reportedly in view of the existing short supply of power.

While no schedules have been announced officially, it was learnt that the power shutdowns in mandal headquarters range between four and five hours, and in the municipalities between two and three hours.

“In villages, however, power cuts were there earlier too. But now they have been extended to towns too. On Thursday, we had five hours of power cut,” complained Arvind, a businessman from Ibrahimpatnam.

When contacted, CPDCL officials informed that load reliefs to the extent of an hour were being implemented in areas other than GHMC due to sudden shortfall in power availability.

There was a gap of 400 to 500 megawatts in the system, an official informed.

Despite water being available in reservoirs, hydel power was not being generated, as the company intends to maintain storage levels for rabi crop, he said.
