Senior railway officer trapped by CBI

The Anti-Corruption wing of Central Bureau of Investigation arrested a group general manager of the RITES Limited and another person for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹ 15 lakh for clearing pending bills of ₹1.5 crore out of a total contract value of ₹ 11 crore.

CBI officers said discreet verification revealed that arrested officer K. Venkateshwara Rao, GGM (Civil), RITES, Project Office, Secunderabad indulged in corrupt practices and was actively involved in awarding contracts to various persons after collecting huge bribe amounts.

Recently RITES Ltd. had awarded contract works to M/s K.V.R. Infrastructure Ltd. for ₹ 11 crore and presently the 6th RA bill amounting to ₹1.5 crore was pending clearance. “After registration of the case, a trap was laid and the accused was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount. Both the accused Rao and Shankar were arrested and searches were being conducted at the office and residence of the accused.
