SCR cautions passengers against carrying firecrackers

To intensify checks at railway stations and in trains

The South Central Railway (SCR) has decided to intensify checks to prevent passengers from carrying firecrackers or other inflammables in trains during Diwali as it poses the risk of causing fire accidents.

Teams of officials from the Railway Protection Force (RPF) would embark on checks in railway stations and in trains.

On Wednesday, General Manager V.K. Yadav warned passengers of stern action if they are found with inflammables and said a strict watch would also be kept on smoking, which is banned on railway premises.

As per Section 67, 154, 164 and 165 of the Railways Act-1989, carrying inflammable and explosive articles in trains is a punishable offence with a punishment of up to three years imprisonment or fine up to ₹1,000 or both, besides being liable for the loss/injury or damage caused.

He also requested rail users to cooperate and remain vigilant to alert the railway staff or call security helpline -182, in case they notice any person carrying firecrackers or any other inflammable/suspicious material in trains or at stations.

Earlier, the GM administered unity pledge and flagged of the unity run to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Similar programmes were also conducted by Vijayawada, Guntur, Guntakal, Nanded, Hyderabad and Secunderabad divisions.
