The Secunderabad Cantonment Board on Saturday demolished a 1,500-square yard building encompassing a motorbike showroom at Tadban.

SCB authorities had first issued notices to owners of Ram Honda showroom in 2005 following its constructions. A court battle ensued and the demolition was stayed until recently, when it was vacated.

Before the demolition could begin, nearly a thousand motorbikes were removed from the showroom and parked outside. “Four plots were merged to construct the showroom without acquiring required permissions. So the structure was demolished,” SCB Assistant Engineer C.H. Uma Shanker said.

In the last 14 months, SCB has demolished 157 unauthorised structures, including 13-year-old-grant bungalows.

Demolitions continued during the recently-concluded election period as well, when five structures were pulled down for violating norms.
