National SC Commission member K. Ramulu urged the Commissioner of Police Kartikeya to ensure the arrest of former BJP leader Medigam Bharath Reddy, who attacked and humiliated dalit youths Laxman and Rajeshwar in Abhangapatnam of Navipet mandal.

Conducting a review on the progress in solving the cases registered under the SC, ST Atrocities [Prevention] Act, with police and civil authorities, here on Saturday, he also asked them to take all necessary steps to avoid the repetition of such incidents. Earlier, accompanied by the authorities he visited the village and consoled the victims and their families.

Mr. Ramulu directed the in-charge Collector A. Ravinder Reddy to ensure payment of ₹8 lakh each to the families of the two dalit youths, three acre land, government job in each family and police protection. He remarked that the Village Development Committees, considered unlawful, were extensively wielding power in the district.
