Satavadhanam has delegates in splits at WTC

Being Sunday, the third day of World Telugu Conference drew large crowds at all the venues.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao himself turned a pruchhaka at Satavadhanam literary feat at Telangana Saraswatha Parishad where the Avadhani, G.M. Rama Sarma, has been fielding questions on a hundred subjects from pruchhakas since Saturday. The event would continue till Tuesday, the last day of the conference.

In the course of his speech, Mr. Rao also read out a poem and promised historic decisions at the valedictory function on Tuesday for all those who worked in the field of literature. There would also be resolutions which would be appreciated by Telugu-speaking people world over.

Mr. Rao recalled that he had memorised and rendered about 3,000 Telugu poems at one time.

At Ravindra Bharathi which was packed with people since morning, the Ashtavadhanam by Avadhani Ashtakala Narasimharama Sarma had the crowd in splits with his humorous replies to pruchhakas . One of them asked him what women were likely to spend on at the conference if their men used up their pocket money. The reply was “jacket money”. Recalling that he was once asked at a session what was of utmost interest to women, he said he replied it was leisureliness because they did everything, including eating, leisurely.

The

pruchhakas also asked Mr. Narasimharama Sarma what day of the week was August 6, 1995, and June 19, 1969. He replied after a brief pause that they were Sunday and Thursday respectively.

The auditorium saw people standing in the doorways and corridors while visitors gathered in groups in the open area outside.

Earlier, an Ashtavadhanam at the same venue by twin poets Mudigonda Amarnatha Sarma and Muthyampeta Gourishankar Sarma also drew huge crowds. TRS MP A.P. Jithender Reddy was present on the occasion. Children from government and private schools displayed their flair for poem recitation at a kavi sammelan exclusively for them.

A meeting on fiction-writing was held at Potti Sriramulu Telugu University where speakers dwelt on novels that made a mark in Telangana.

A retired professor K. Enoch said novels must present only contemporary life, but it was unfortunate that even history and mythology found a place in them. The marathon kavi sammelan at Indira Priyadarshini Auditorium saw hundreds of poets reciting their poems.
