The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner, Somesh Kumar, on Tuesday took note of garbage getting accumulated on the main roads and gave the sanitation wing two days to get all the piled up garbage cleared. In instances where the garbage was not removed, the officials concerned were warned of suspension.
At a review meeting here, the Commissioner said that despite being on election duty, it was the prime responsibility of the sanitary staff to perform their regular duties and directed all the special officers, deputy commissioners and zonal commissioners to be on field in the morning to personally monitor the lifting of garbage on priority.
Mr. Kumar also pointed out that nearly three lakh property owners did not pay taxes last year and asked for a list of 250 top defaulters. A payment of Rs.5 per demand bill was also announced for bill collectors who serve the bills to property owners within 15 days time and Rs.3 per demand bill served after the date.

He also congratulated the revenue wing for collecting over Rs.1,000 crores towards property tax for the year 2013-14 and also Rs.111 crores in April as part of the early bird offer. Employees who reached their targets will be given incentives as a token of encouragement, a press release said.
Outlining the strategy for the year 2014-15, he asked the revenue wing to start assessing the new properties by considering the issue date of occupancy certificate, area mentioned in fire No Objection Certificate (NOC), HMWSSB bulk meters and commercial charges of APCPDCL.
The Commissioner directed for data purification of property tax and wanted priority to be given for the top 250 defaulters, clearing of court cases, double entries, revision petitions and zero assessments where demand is shown as zero.
