November 24, 2011 02:39 am | Updated 02:49 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Patrolling intensified at several places in old city

Yet another ‘faked attack' by a mobile phone company salesman at Langerhouz sent rumour mills on an overdrive spreading unconfirmed reports that persons belonging to a particular community were being targeted.

Investigation, however, revealed on Wednesday that the ‘attack' was a concocted story by the salesman, Atiq (25), of Ahmednagar. The Langerhouz police said they were contemplating registration of a criminal case against him for misleading them with false information.

Atiq approached the police on Tuesday night alleging that some persons intercepted him at Langerhouz. “They asked me my name and started attacking me when I mentioned my name,” he told the police. He also claimed that the attackers took away money from him. Inquiries by the police revealed that the salesman had lodged a false complaint. Police said they were yet to ascertain the motive behind it.

Meanwhile, the police continued to deploy additional forces at all communally sensitive points in the city with more focus on old city. Contingents of Rapid Action Force and special force were stationed at strategic locations while local law and order police stepped up patrolling in the night and subjected commuters to frisking at many places.

Inspectors of the police stations concerned were instructed to patrol localities in their area till 2 a.m. while the Assistant Commissioners of Police monitored the situation till midnight.
