Rs. 6.15 cr. deficit in OU budget

Osmania University, the hotbed of Telangana agitation, will end up in deficit even in the new State as it has a deficit of Rs. 6.15 crore despite increased block grant from the Government.

Dean of Commerce Prof. Akbar Ali Khan on Friday in his budget explained that revenue of Rs. 543.61 crore is expected for 2015-16, with expenditure projected at Rs. 569.58 crore.

As the block grant allocated is not sufficient, the Government will be requested for sanction of additional funds to overcome the shortfall.

Tenth PRC

Sixty-six per cent of expenditure will go towards salaries and pensions - Rs. 239.30 crore (42.02 per cent) for salaries and Rs. 135.15 crore (23.73 per cent) for pensions. Arrears for pensions will eat away Rs. 41.62 crore, and commitment on extension of benefit of 10{+t}{+h}PRC to the non-teaching staff will be another Rs. 48 crore while arrears of UGC scales 2006 to teachers will be Rs. 28.05 crore.

OU allocated Rs. 16.39 crore for establishment of PG College at Siddipet and Rs.22.06 crore for PG College at Jogipet. It will get Rs. 61.36 crore under UGC schemes while self-financing courses and distance courses will generate Rs. 38.14 crore.
