An altercation over feeding pigeons allegedly led to a senior citizen attacking the muezzin of a masjid with a retractable utility blade in Kishan Bagh area on Tuesday.

According to Bahadurpura police, soon after Fajar (pre-dawn) prayers Noorullah Khan (60) scattered the bird feed on a raised platform near the masjid, in which he prayed, for the pigeons to feed. Soon after, the muezzin Mohammed Nazeer, accompanied by others, objected and threw the feed.

Khan, who lives opposite the masjid, raised objected to that. Soon a verbal spat ensued which turned violent. Khan attacked the muezzin, Md Dastagir and Naseeruddin with the retractable utility blade. The trio suffered injuries and were moved to Osmania General Hospital.

Police said that Khan has a mental health condition. A case under Section 324 (causing hurt) of the IPC has been registered.
