‘Degree conferred technically as oath was administered to the students before presenting degrees’

History scholar L. Pandu Ranga Reddy protesting at the OU convocation on Thursday as Prof. Goverdhan Mehta of University of Hyderabad looks on.

The Osmania University administration is in a quandary over the refusal of degree by L. Pandu Ranga Reddy during the convocation held at Tagore Auditorium on the campus here on Thursday.

Rules stipulate that a student has to apply for registering his/her name to take degree during convocation. The university officials will send a letter to the student concerned confirming the registration and later the degree would be presented during the convocation.

In Mr. Reddy’s case, the university officials said the degree has been conferred on him technically as oath was administered to students before presenting degrees.

If anyone fails to attend the programme, then the degree would be sent by post, officials explained. One has to see whether Mr. Reddy would accept it by post or he will wait till separate Statehood for Telangana was carved out.
