Rain fury: 6 die as wall collapses in Hyderabad

Six of two families got buried alive when the compound wall of an open land collapsed on their huts at MJ colony near Moula Ali area in Malkajgiri, Hyderabad after midnight on Monday.

The two families, hailing from Mahbubnagar, were living in two huts adjacent to the huge compound wall. The wall, built decades ago, caved in apparently due to seepage of water following the incessant rains for the past three days.

The victims were identified as Mahadevan, 45, his wife, Padma, 35, their sons Anil and Shiva, both below 15 years, Shiva Kumar, 35, and his teenaged son, Avinash. Mr. Kumar’s wife Padma and their second son Anil are still trapped under the debris.

The Malkajgiri police rushed to the spot and took up the rescue operations in the early hours of Tuesday. They recovered the six bodies and shifted them to the Gandhi hospital mortuary.

Cyberabad Police Commissioner C.V. Anand is supervising the rescue operations personally.
