The National Institute of Technology (NIT), Warangal which carried out a road safety audit of the PVNR Elevated Expressway has found the riding quality of the 11.8 km facility as falling within the specified limits. According to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), the test results showed the roughness value of the expressway was between 1,910 to 2,440 mm/km which as per values recommended for bituminous concrete surface could be rated as good. The riding quality was within the limits of Indian Road Congress (IRC) and Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORT&H) recommendations. The safety audit done by NIT's Transportation Department of the Department of Civil Engineering, made broad observations of deficiencies on the facility such as maintenance of signage, visibility of signage, suitable markings on emergency lay-bye/parking, street lighting, outgrowth of tree branches on to the flyover, dust on the road margins and its affect on visibility of lane marking apart from lack of setback for one building at the turning near Mehdipatnam, according to HMDA. The Authority said most of these observations were already attended and damaged street light poles were rectified in coordination with APCPDCL and the Traffic Police increased vigil to prevent two and three-wheeler movement on it. Regular sweeping arrangements were being tied-up with the GHMC. Providing noise barrier to one of the buildings close to the expressway at Mehdipatnam was being examined by the Project Management Consultant.
