State to provide free medicines to eligible patients

Health Minister C. Lakshma Reddy has said that the State Government has decided to provide medicine free of cost for eligible patients who undergo organ transplantation surgeries.

The Government had made budgetary allocations for providing life saving medicine for the patients who underwent such operations. The allocation was made keeping in view the high cost of the life saving medicine, he said. The Minister on Sunday interacted with four patients who underwent heart transplantation surgeries at a private hospital. The operations were performed with the help of the Arogya Sri Trust and all the patients were recovering fast.

Six patients underwent heart transplantation and another liver transplantation was successfully performed on eight others starting June last year. He welcomed the initiative taken by the corporate hospitals in cooperating with the Government in providing organ transplantation operations to deserving patients. The corporate hospitals had come forward to conduct the operations on humanitarian grounds on a non-profit basis and this was a welcome gesture by them.

Strengthening the infrastructure and facilities in the Government-run hospitals and equipping them with state of the art operation theatres for performing complicated surgeries like organ transplantation were among the steps initiated by the Government in this regard while arrangements were put in place for providing post operative care for patients undergoing surgeries.
