Police gear up for polls

37 companies of CAPF, eight companies of APSP, 3,500 NSS volunteers, 200 officials and 14,000 city police personnel deployed to ensure smooth conduct of polls

Thirty seven companies of Central Armed Paramilitary Forces (CAPF), eight companies of Andhra Pradesh Special Police, 3,500 NSS volunteers and 200 officers from Forest and Prohibition & Excise Department apart from 14,000 city police personnel have been deployed to ensure free, fair and peaceful elections on Wednesday.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Hyderabad Commissioner Anurag Sharma said there were 3,442 polling stations at 1,414 locations, and of these 197 have been declared hypersensitive and 304 critical. About 318 mobile parties would cover all the polling stations periodically.

In addition, 60 quick response team parties, 45 striking force and five special striking force parties have been formed. Four IGs, one DIG, eight SPs, two ASP’s have been roped in from other areas. Till now, 200 cases of code violation and 179 FIRs were registered. Eighty persons belonging to various political parties were also arrested in the cases.

Cyberabad police would be deploying 10,500 policemen including 14 companies of CAPF. There are 1,437 polling locations and 4,137 polling stations of which 182 stations have been declared hypersensitive. The police have formed 332 mobile parties, 40 striking force and 13 special striking force teams.
