The Union Budget has sketched out a roadmap for the expansion of Hyderabad-based National Police Academy (NPA) as well as improvement of infrastructure at the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The budget plan aims at enhancing the training capacity of the NPA, which trains IPS probationers.

The NPA located in Sivarampally on the southern side of Hyderabad will be expanded by 42 acres for ensuring the provision of security and administrative infrastructure. The addition of 100-room IPS mess and 112 residential quarters is expected to enhance the training capacity to 600 police officers and 150 IPS probationers.

The total budgetary outlay for modernising the police force across the country for 2019-20 has been pegged at ₹3,462 crore, and ₹4,757 crore has been earmarked for improving police infrastructure. In the case of NIA, which has one functioning unit in the city, the budgetary outlay is for office building and construction of 65 residential quarters.

The announcement of an ₹152-crore Central share for Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) based at Amaravati for Andhra Pradesh will also ease the burden on Hyderabad-based FSL, which was allocated to Telangana during the bifurcation of the State.
