The 63{+r}{+d}varsity in the country, Prof. Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU), that was born on September 1, 2014, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) in Manila, Philippines.
PJTSAU Special Officer V. Praveen Rao said according to the MoU that was signed on Monday with IRRI, represented by its Director-General Robert S. Zeigler, exchange programmes for students and faculty would begin in June/July for capacity-building and collaboration on research and development.
Starting this academic year, the PJTSAU can take in 330 students, including 255 undergraduates and 75 for postgraduate programmes. At a press conference here on Monday, he said among things, they had published the ‘Act and Statutes’, academic, administrative and general rules, with the sanction of State Government. The inclusion in ICAR’s directory and entering into MoU for grant of funds for research on 29 projects meant that around Rs.10 crore would be available for R & D. It also became the 63{+r}{+d}member of the Indian Agricultural Universities Association. The PJTSAU, he said, was now fully empowered as a State University to award degrees through its own departments, constituent colleges and/or through its affiliated colleges in the regular mode, Mr. Rao said, explaining that all students of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, would get certificates/degrees in the name of PJTSAU, post-Sept. 1’14.
