Pilot project to weed out bogus ration cards

The pilot project towards culling out bogus ration cards which is on in select fair price shops might reach completion in Ranga Reddy district by August 15 this year. The project envisages correlation of beneficiary data with that collected during Aadhar enrolment, informed officials from the Civil Supplies Department.

The pilot has been initiated simultaneously in seven districts of the State, namely Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Chittoor, Anantapur, East Godavari, Adilabad and Srikakulam where the enrolment for Unique Identification (Aadhar) project was carried out in the first phase.

In Ranga Reddy district, the process is under way in connection with 15 fair price shops located in nine municipalities, namely Alwal, Kapra, Kukatpally, L.B. Nagar, Malkajgiri, Quthbullahpur, Rajendranagar, Serilingampally, and Uppal. Data with regard to 13,442 BPL cards pertaining to 56,708 beneficiaries is being collected through the fair price shops towards the project.

As part of the project, beneficiaries collecting monthly ration are being asked to fill up the Data Collection Sheet, with details such as family head’s name, the 12-digit Unique Identification(UID) number or 28-digit Aadhar Enrolment number (EID), details of family members and their EID or UID, and bank account number which is optional.

The details will be compared with those collected during Aadhar enrolment drive, and any discrepancies with regard to name and family members will be corrected to match with the UID data, informed the district’s civil supplies officer B. Narasimha Reddy.

“So far, we could collect details of about 50 per cent of the BPL cardholders in the purview of the chosen fair price shops. It has been decided to collect details about remaining cards too, and computerise them by August 15. All those cards which fail to make it to the list will be considered bogus and cancelled,” Mr. Reddy informed.
