A photo exhibition tracing the heritage of Hyderabad was inaugurated on Friday at Salar Jung Museum by Regional Director (South Asia) Max Muller Bhavan, New Delhi, Heiko Sievers. The exhibition showcases the architectural grandeur, art and historic places of Hyderabad in three phases with photographs taken in 1975, 1996 and 2011.
The exhibition, which has photographs of Dr. Hans Winterberg and Thomas Luttege, is a collaborative effort of Salar Jung Museum, INTACH and Goethe-Zentrum, Hyderabad, as part of “Germany and India 2011-2012: Infinite Opportunities”.
“The exhibition is aimed at making general public and authorities aware of how heritage structures in Hyderabad have deteriorated over the years,” said Amita Desai, executive director, Goethe-Zentrum Hyderabad.

The project to visually record the changing skyline of Hyderabad through photographs began in 1974. It was in this year that Dr. Hans Winterberg, who was then the Director Max Muller Bhavan, Hyderabad, was invited by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority to be a part of the heritage committee.
To raise awareness, Dr. Winterberg proposed a photographic project portraying various monuments of the capital.
He along with Munich based photographer Thomas Luttege captured the deteriorating heritage structures in three phases.

“These photographs show the deep concern of photographers towards the old monuments of Hyderabad,” said Anuradha Reddy, Convenor, INTACH .
“We are planning to hold discussions on the ways and means to conserve historical monuments. Suggestions of the participants, stake holders and custodians of heritage precincts will be taken into consideration. The outcome of the deliberations will be sent to the Government,” the INTACH Convenor said.
The photo exhibition will be open for public till February 22.
