January 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:24 am IST - HYDERABAD:

About 30 members of the Progressive Democratic Students Union (Telangana) were arrested by police when they tried to lay siege to the Chief Minister’s camp office here on Friday.

The students were agitated due to delay in release of Rs. 1,000 crore fee reimbursement due to educational institutions, as was promised by the government. “We wanted to meet Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, but were told that he was away in Warangal. We then tried to meet his son and Minister for Panchayat Raj and Information Technology K.T. Rama Rao, but were arrested by police and taken to Gosha Mahal police station,” said PDSU general secretary N. Rakesh.

Mr. Rakesh and State president P. Narsaiah said that of the Rs. 1,500 crore reimbursement that had piled up since the past year-and-a-half, the government has released Rs. 500 crore. More importantly, nothing has been released for the current year.
