Migrant workers of the State returning from Saudi Arabia following implementation of the Nitaqat rules need not feel let down. Though there is no initiative from the government, the A.P. State Minorities Commission has decided to constitute a five-member committee to address their problems.
The Nitaqat rules, which are part of the Saudinisation drive, has affected about 1.34 lakh Indian workers, a major chunk of whom are from Andhra Pradesh, it is said. The APSMC on Friday decided that its panel would explore the possibility of working out a rehabilitation package.
“It will look into the question of extending financial assistance through banks and providing necessary permission for setting up businesses,” APSMC chief Abid Rasool Khan said, adding that a letter in this connection would be sent to the Chief Minister.

Former DGP Swaranjit Sen will be the chairman of the committee. Other members include eminent industrialist Khaleel Ahmed, F.D. Khan and Sons managing partner Azam Khan, former member of the Human Rights Commission Justice Ismail, and Batco Group managing director Iqbal Patni.
