Panel set up to review sand mining policy

The Andhra Pradesh Government has constituted a six-member committee headed by Principal Secretary, Revenue to review the existing policy for sand mining and propose a simplified and objective sand mining procedure.

A meeting chaired by Chief Secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao recently to review the sand mining policy decided in favour of a procedure that will help the government curb illegal sand mining but also make sand available to the market.

The committee comprising principal secretaries of Industry and Commerce, Irrigation, special chief secretary, EFST and Directors of Ground Water and Mines and Geology was asked to come up with guidelines for removal of sand, de-silting of reservoirs and streams and removal of sand from patta lands separately, according to a GO issued by Industries and Commerce department on Monday.
