Pamphlet triggers communal tension at S.R. Nagar

Distribution of pamphlets with objectionable content sparked communal tension at S.R. Nagar on Wednesday.

Police resorted to lathi-charge after a group of nearly 200 youngsters, who assembled at the S.R. Nagar police station, tried to barge inside, protesting the distribution of pamphlets. Additional forces, including teams from the Task Force and A.P.S.P., were rushed to the spot. The situation was brought under control, with police contingents patrolling the communally sensitive localities in the area when reports last came in.

Intelligence wing officials said that some youngsters had collected pamphlets with objectionable religious matters and showed them to those at a prayer hall in Khairatabad in the morning.

“They claimed that some persons were trying to hurt their sentiments. Similar pamphlets were found being distributed at Yellareddyguda in S.R. Nagar. A police constable seized the pamphlets and found a person’s photo with details on the backside,” a police officer said.

The person was identified as Praveen Goud (24).

His email ID, phone number and facebook address were mentioned on the rear side of the pamphlets. Police traced Goud and picked him up after registering a case.

Goud, who was pursuing some software programme, feigned innocence. He reportedly claimed that he had no role in the issue. Investigators checked his email and Facebook account but reportedly did not find any offensive religious content.

Meanwhile, mild tension prevailed at the Langerhouz police station after a woman raised a hue and cry after her husband was brought to the station on the charge of assaulting someone.

Accusing police of harassing her husband, the woman demanded that her husband be released unconditionally. While she charged that a home guard had tried to push her out of the station, the latter maintained that he had only tried to pacify her.
