According to the data provided by Mr. Kumar, the number of fatal accidents in the city had also seen a steep decline of 13% compared to last year.

“While 225 fatal accidents took place in 2018, the number had came down to 196,” he said. Meanwhile, the city witnessed 17% dip in death of pedestrians this year. In 2018, the number of people killed was 96 people, while it was 80 this year, he said.

Mr. Kumar said that a massive crackdown on drunk driving, overspeeding, minor driving and other traffic violations by motorists contributed in a major way to drop in the fatalities.
