‘Most leakage points attended to and remaining will be taken care of on a time bound manner’

Hyderabad Metro Rail authorities on Saturday sought to clarify that the rain water overflowing and dripping from the overhead metro viaduct at some places was due to non-completion of track related works and temporary closure of water drainage holes to prevent their clogging with construction materials.

"This is not because of any deficiencies," claimed HMR MD N.V.S. Reddy after inspecting the the rain water drainage arrangements and the ongoing track laying works on the Metro viaduct between Madhapur-Hitec city stations and between Prakash Nagar-Parade ground stations in the morning.

Accompanied by top officials, he said that since the ballast less metro rail tracks are to be directly laid on concrete plinth beams on the viaduct. And, because the plinth beams and track works are still in execution stage at some places, temporary diversion of rain water into water pipes and spouts in the pillars will be done in the next one month.

Wherever there is slippage of water spouts due to expansion of glue in severe heat conditions in summer will be replaced with a new type of spouts so as to ensure it will not slip from their position and they can be fixed with glue of higher specification. Mr. Reddy affirmed that most leakage points have been attended to and the remaining points will be attended in a time bound manner without waiting for completion of the track works.

Similarly, the work of gutter fixing for all metro stations at roof, platform and concourse level will be expedited. Granite flooring works on the remaining stations and closure of all the holes on the viaduct too will be completed at an early date, he promised.

The MD also urged engineering wings of L&TMRH, HMR and Independent Engineer Louis Berger to work in close coordination and ensure rain water overflow is arrested.
