Everyday, more than 2.66 lakh vehicles pass over this road-over-bridge, one of the busiest stretches in the city on an average!

The Comprehensive Transportation Study (CTS) taken up by LEA Associates in the Hyderabad Metropolitan Area, a survey of 61 different stretches of road had Begumpet topping the list in terms of vehicular movement.

Comprising all kinds of vehicles from two-wheelers, cars to goods vehicles, the survey found NH-9 road near Malakpet as the second highest in terms of average daily traffic with 2.21 lakh. And the initiative for which traffic was counted for 24 hours at 15 minutes intervals, had Alugada Bavi cornering third place with 1.39 lakh vehicles.

The heavy reliance on personal transport gets noticed across all the observation points and underscored from the data at Rail Nilayam where vehicles meant for public transport were 1,953 while the private vehicles stood at 1.4 lakh

The CTS field surveys at 26 locations between Thondapalli, Falaknuma, Yakutpura, Vidyanagar, Sitaphalmandi, Safilguda, Bolaram and Venkatpur documented private vehicles to be more than 20 times than the number of public transport. At some places, the gap widens to almost 100 times as in case of Bolaram where against 79 public transport vehicles, the personal vehicles were counted to 7,231.

Coming to the hourly variation, it considered 9 a.m. to 12 noon and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. as peak hours and found traffic to comprise 37 per cent of daily traffic during these six hours.
