The Congress has levelled serious allegations of tapping the phones of Opposition leaders and spying on their movements against the caretaker government led by K. Chandrasekhar Rao.
Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir alleged here on Monday that the government is terrorising and victimising Opposition leaders and activists by threatening them with slapping false cases. The caretaker government is doing so to pressurise the Opposition ranks to join the TRS, he said.
Citing several instances in his constituency, Kamareddy, Mr. Shabbir Ali said the Opposition rank and file were being coerced systematically for their defection into TRS. Addressing a press conference here he said he was shocked to see the intelligence sleuths tapping his mobile phone.

Similar felonious acts were also underway on the telephones and mobile phones of other Congress leaders in Telangana, he stated adding that as per Article 21 of the Constitution “no person shall be deprived of his life or personal liberty except according to procedure established by law. And if done in an unauthorised manner it would attract prosecution of the person responsible for breach of privacy”.
Mr. Ali said he had received threatening calls earlier too and had lodged a complaint with the Jubilee Hills police station. However, there was no action, allegedly due to intervention by TRS, he said.
The Congress leader requested the Governor to advise the caretaker government and the police to stop illegal phone tappings and protect democracy in the State.
