OU undergraduate exams: girls outdo boys

The pass percentage this year is 52.43, a slight increase over last year’s 48%

The number of undergraduate students from Osmania University who cleared their final exams, is slightly higher this year at 52.43 per cent. In 2014, over 48 per cent of the students had cleared the exams.

This year, 53,160 B.A, B.Com and B.Sc students from OU appeared for their final exams, out of which, 27,783 passed. This year, the results were better in all three streams when compared with results from 2014.

B.A. students registered the highest improvement this year when compared with the previous year, as 62.46 per cent students cleared their exams when compared to last year’s 50.75 per cent. B.Com and B.Sc streams also recorded marginal improvements by 2-3 per cent this year.

“Also, this year, the number of girls who passed the exams is higher than boys, which is a good sign,” said Suresh Kumar, Registrar, OU, here at a press conference on Friday.

This year, 16,606 girls passed their exams when compared to 11,267 boys, who cleared the examinations.

Emergency meeting

Mr. Kumar also mentioned that an emergency meeting would be held soon to discuss the issue of implementing the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) for undergraduate students in OU.

“After holding talks, it may be implemented from next year. After that, we will focus on improving the faculty strength,” he said.
