The ways and means to promote an environment of peace, security, mutual cooperation and coordination of the SAARC region through the India - Sri Lanka canvas will be discussed at the two-day international conference being held by the Centre for Indian Ocean Studies (CIOS), Osmania University on November 8 and 9.
The conference on ‘India-Sri Lanka Relations: Strengthening SAARC’ will review the role of SAARC in the economic betterment of the region in promoting India - Sri Lanka relations and also strengthening future relations, promoting multilateral relations for development in critical areas, the OU Vice-Chancellor, S. Satyanarayana said at a press conference here on Sunday.

R. Sidda Goud, Director of Centre for Indian Ocean Studies and the Convenor of the conference said that the conference will cover a whole gamut of issues like SAARC focusing on commonalities and diluting differences; possibilities for trade lobbies, plurality and diaspora; human rights of marginalised, ethnic and religious groups; urban - regional development and planning apart from security concerns.
The NALSAR Law University visiting professor, P.V. Rao, will deliver the keynote address. N.Sathiyamoorthy, Director, Observer Research Foundation, Chennai chapter and Col. Hariharan, former Military Intelligence officer, Chennai will also present their views. Representatives and scholars from Sri Lanka including Rajiva Wijesinha, Major General Perera, Prathiba Mahanamahewa, N.Chandasiri Niriella, and H.D.Karunaratne from Colombo University will participate and present papers.
Prof. Goud said that 51 papers have been received so far for the five technical sessions at the conference.
