A meeting of the Telangana Information Technology Association here on Sunday took note of the fact that IT employees hailing from the region constituted only 15.2 per cent of the workforce in the sector in Hyderabad.
The employees from coastal and Rayalaseema districts numbered 45 to 50 per cent while those from other States were 35 per cent. The figures were based on a sample survey of 250 projects in 50 big, middle and small sized companies, the association president Sundeep Kumar Makthala informed the meeting held to handover letters of appointment to various organisational posts.
He said the poor presence of Telangana in the sector raised a serious question whether the region lacked skilled manpower. To address the problem, the association proposed a career guidance programme but it failed to click. Instead, it was decided to promote long-term mentorship with the support of IT experts from the region.

The honorary president of the association and former TRS leader V. Prakash said the formation of Telangana State was as real as sunrise in the present circumstances and asked leaders from coastal districts not to set up hurdles. He added that the reports prepared by the Group of Ministers, particularly the one on water sharing by Jairam Ramesh, were doctored at the instance of these leaders.
The Telangana Development Forum president D.P. Reddy said Hyderabad was an investment friendly centre and a strategic location for industry.
