It’s going to be roses all the way! A corner of the sprawling Sanjeevaiah Park will soon have blooming roses in different colours and fragrances, with the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) deciding to set up a Rose Garden.
According to officials, the garden is to come up on a 5.5-acre site that is located on the way to the Yacht Club from the Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Memorial. As of now, the garden is proposed to be planted with more than 5,000 rose plants picked from nearly 200 different species.
A part of the master plan for the Sanjeevaiah Park prepared by leading architectural and landscape consultant Kishore Pradhan, the Rose Garden is to take shape at an estimated cost of Rs. 3.25 crore. “Along with other parks in the city such as Narayanguda and KBR National Park, Mr. Pradhan had drawn his master plan some time ago. Now, we are starting the work,” an official said.

Suggestions of individuals and groups, including Rose Society, are being sought in finalising details for the garden, the work on which will start in July.
“We will process and shortlist roses that are suitable to our climate and where to acquire them,” he said.
Apart from the Rose Garden, the HMDA will also be setting up a Herbal Garden on a 2.27-acre site opposite Sanjeevaiah Park. The site is presently used to keep the dumper bins of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation.

The estimated cost of the Herbal Garden is Rs. 1.25 crore, and it will have more than 100 different varieties of medicinal and herbal plants.
“This facility will have Indian species, and we are taking the help of the Medicinal and Aromatic Plants Board to finalise details,” he said.
The HMDA has also drawn up plans to green the Hussainsagar lake shoreline, and the work will be taken up from Buddha Bhavan Point to Sanjeevaiah Park.
