Nine killed in three road accidents

Three of the victims were IIT graduates

Death came calling for nine persons, including three graduates of the Indian Institute of Technology at Kharagpur, on Friday. Eight persons died in two road accidents while the ninth victim died in a freak accident on the outskirts of the city.

Surya Teja of Vijayawada, Thandra Rohith of Nalgonda and Ravi Teja of Visakhapatnam met a gory end when the car they were travelling in met with an accident on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) in Pahadisharieff. They were in their late 20s. The trio completed graduation from IIT Kharagpur and were working with reputed companies.

Their friend, Kiran of Karimnagar, who was looking for a job, sustained critical injuries in the accident but was recuperating. “They started for Khammam to attend a friend’s marriage and rammed a van from behind near Tukkuguda crossing around 7.40 a.m.," Pahadisharieff Inspector Laxmikanth Reddy said.

After hitting the van, the car lost control, crashed into the ORR railing and and came to a halt after over-turning. Death was instant for Surya Teja and Ravi Teja while Rohith succumbed to the injuries after being rushed to a hospital. Kiran was out of danger, police said quoting the doctors.

Earlier, four of a family -- one of them discharged from hospital after medical treatment for some ailment -- and the driver of the car they were travelling in died in a road accident at Nandigama, 50 km from the city, around 2 a.m. on Friday. Their car crashed into a stationary lorry from behind.

Death was instant for all the five. The family members of Somanna, who got discharged from a hospital in Hyderabad, were taking him back to their house in Kurnool when the accident occurred.

Along with him, Narsamma, Giddamma, Somesh and car driver Mallesh of Chevella died.

In another gory accident, a housewife got burnt to death after high tension electric wires snapped and fell on the car she was travelling in along with her family at Yacharam on Friday night. The victim, her husband and four other family members were in the car.
