An elevated corridor on Uppal-Ghatkesar section of NH 163 and six-laning of Aramgarh-Shamshabad section of NH 44 are among the nine key projects being taken by the National Highways Authority of India this year.
The Union government will soon complete development activities centred around existing National Highways in Telangana. During 2015-16, roads that extend to a total of 569 km will be developed in the State with the aid of Central grants, said Union Minister for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Mr. Gadkari said among the projects to be taken up are four-laning of Sangareddy-Nanded section of the NH-161 and Jagityal-Warangal section of NH 563. Two laning of Jadcherla-Haggeri section of NH-167 too will be taken this year, he said. Also on the anvil are elevated corridor in Uppal-Ghatkesar section of NH 163 and construction of a flyover in Amberpet on NH 163.

The Centre is also thinking of developing river ports in the city, Mr. Gadkari said. “The national highways connected to inroads will then be connected to ports. This will reduce the time spent on logistics,” he said.
The Centre is also planning to introduce buses run on bio-diesel that will benefit both the environmental and economic needs of the country, he said, adding State governments should emulate the model.
Speaking on the Land Acquisition ordinance the Union Minister said that that the Act would only benefit farmers.
