A 28-year-old newly married woman committed suicide by hanging herself at her in-laws’ house at Dynamic Colony in Meerpet here on Wednesday, police said.

Govada Vincy Gnana Sarojini, who was married to G. John Victor, nine-months ago, was a housewife staying with her husband and in-laws in Chennai. Recently, they came to Hyderabad for registration of new property.

The Meerpet police said she was being allegedly harassed by her husband and in-laws to bring dowry. “Unable to bear the harassment, she resorted to the extreme step,” said H. Raghavender, Sub-Inspector, Meerpet.

The woman was not allowed to meet or talk to her parents and relatives and Victor allegedly restricted Vincy from using mobile phone too, he said. “Ironically, Vincy was daughter of Victor’s maternal uncle and married her in August last year,” he said.

The incident came to light at 5 p.m, when Victor returned home after the property registration. The victim’s husband did not take her for registration.

She was immediately rushed to a private hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead. Based on the complaint lodged by Vincy’s father Govada Kizer, a case pertaining to dowry harassment was registered and a probe is on.
