The State capital witnessed a bizarre situation on Thursday when a team of CID officials unsuccessfully tried to execute a non-bailable warrant (NBW) against a senior IPS officer, Umesh Kumar. The NBW was issued by a local court after the officer failed to appear before it in connection with a forgery case registered against him, according to CID special public prosecutor, K. Ajay Kumar.
CID officials maintained that Mr. Umesh Kumar was not found at home when they went to his quarter in Yousufguda to execute the warrant. None of the CID officials was willing to be quoted on the development.

The execution of the warrant means the IPS officer of the DG rank, would have been taken into custody and produced before the court on Friday. The court would then either allow him to file a recall petition or grant him bail.
Dr. Ajay Kumar said the NBW was issued by the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, after the petition for exempting him from personal appearance under section 317 of Cr.PC was rejected.

Mr. Umesh Kumar is currently the chairman of Godavari Valley Development Authority (GVDA). He is facing a case in which he was accused of producing a forged letter in the name of a Rajya Sabha member to the Central government. The allegation was that the forged letter was to mar the chances of V. Dinesh Reddy from being appointed as the police chief.
Both Mr. Reddy and Mr. Umesh Kumar belong to 1977 batch of the IPS.
