The first phase of Hyderabad Metro Rail project under construction by the L & T Metro Rail Hyderabad (L&TMRH), which was initially proposed to be opened on the eight kilometre stretch from Nagole to Mettuguda, may be extended up to Secunderabad Railway Station.
Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said the earlier considered stretch “was not financially and technically viable” to the company, the Minister informed the TS Assembly on Thursday in reply to a question from BJP floor leader K. Laxman. The BJP leader had sought to know why the first phase launch proposed to be opened on Ugadi (March 21) was put off.
The Minister also explained that there was no agreement between the L & TMRH (as the concessonaire) and the Telangana State Government for launch on Ugadi, the Telugu New Year's Day. The Minister added that the Government had, nonetheless, learnt from the company that the first phase launch was put off till the completion of the stretch upto Secunderabad Railway Station. The decision was left to the company to decide the next dates.

On the question of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen member Moazam Khan seeking to know the fate of the diversion of route proposed by his party in the old city on corridor two – Jubilee Bus Station to Falaknuma, the Minister said that the Government was examining diversion in three corridors -- running opposite Assembly buildings, Sultan Bazar and the old city through Shahalibanda -- but no decision was taken yet. The Government will convene an all-party meeting on receipt of feasibility report before taking any decision.
Mr. Khan asked the Government as to when the works would be grounded in the old city where the new route was proposed parallel to the rail lines that ferried Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) trains as part of city services. The MIM had proposed route change from MGBS across the Musi river bank - Nayapul, Muslimjungpul, Puranapul, Kalapathar and Falaknuma.
Replying to M. Sudhir Reddy of TRS, who wanted to know the progress of proposals to extend the metro rail line from Miyapur to Patancheru, L.B. Nagar to Hayatnagar and Jubilee Bus Station to Alwal, Mr. Rao said the Government would discuss them soon.
