Mystery behind watchman’s murder solved

The Mailardevpally police on Wednesday claimed to have solved the mystery behind the killing of a watchman at Katedan a month ago with the arrest of one Anooj Kumar Chowdary, a private employee.

The victim Bhasker (25) worked as a watchman at an under-construction building in Kattedan. On April 4, Bhasker and his friend P Shanker (48) came to Anooj to settle a dispute over Rs. 800. Bhasker and Anooj had sold some scrap for Rs. 800. However, Anooj did not pay Bhasker’s share, leading to the dispute, the police said.

Bhaskar and Shanker met Anooj near Payal Food Company in Katedan and demanded their share. “An argument ensued between them after which Anooj attacked both with a stick resulting in grievous injuries to Bhaskar. Anooj pushed Bhasker into a dump yard that was set on fire by some persons. The watchman sustained burns and died while Shanker managed to escape,” Inspector Mailardevpally, S Venkat Reddy said.

The police who found the body the next day registered a case of suspicious death and launched an investigation. In the course of investigation, the police altered it to Section 302 of IPC and arrested the accused.
