Museum of handicrafts to be opened soon in Hyderabad

A museum of handicrafts and handlooms showcasing works of artisans from different parts of the country will be opened soon at Shilparamam in the city, G. Kishan Rao, special officer, Shilparamam said here on Tuesday.

Speaking at the inauguration of ‘Lepakshi Buyers and Sellers Meet’ organised by A.P. Handicrafts Development Corporation (APHDC), Mr. Kishan Rao said that the facility that would cost about Rs.50 lakh would present the works of master craftsmen. Efforts were on to support artisans and promote their work with various schemes and initiatives, he said.

The three-day exhibition-cum-sale of handicrafts and handlooms of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States saw the participation of nearly 80 artisans.

Shailaja Ramaiyer, APHDC Managing Director, said that the event would help artisans showcase their best quality products for buyers to source and establish future market linkages. “Lepakshi is doing such an event for the first time and several unique products are on display here. We will try to make it an annual event,” she said.

Around 60 potential handicrafts buyers and exporters from across the country were invited to take part in the meet to work out their product needs and sourcing, she added.
