Overnight heavy rain followed by a cloudy sky with intermittent drizzle and cold wind throughout the day saw maximum temperatures dipping by nine degrees from the normal temperatures, at 21.2 degrees, in the capital on Sunday. Thundershowers or rain has been forecast by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for the next two days with overcast skies.
Cooler days
Days could continue to be cooler for few more days at less than 30 degree C. However, the nights are going to be warmer with minimum temperature likely to hover around 18 degree C and a couple of degrees more than the normal temperatures at this time of the year. Heavy rain occurred at isolated places in the districts of Siddipet, Jangaon, J.Bhupalpally and Karimnagar, it said.

Private weather forecaster Skymet Weather said an upper air cyclonic circulation is present over eastern parts of Vidarbha and adjoining region in the lower troposphere. In addition to this system, an upper air trough is extending from Jharkhand till South coastal Karnataka across Vidarbha, Telangana and north interior Karnataka regions.
Due to both the systems, warm and moist winds from Bay of Bengal are blowing over the states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. These two systems are expected to weaken and move in east directions in the next 24 hours, it said.
In the meantime, GHMC emergency and police teams have been put on high alert for the next 48 hours due to the heavy rain forecast.

GHMC Commissioner M. Dana Kishore and Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar went on an inspection at all major thoroughfares in the morning to check for water stagnations, damages caused due to the overnight rain and the emergency repairs to be taken up. Rain gauges put in various places showed the rainfall to be high at Shapurnagar at 54.7 mm, Madhapur 53.8 mm, Qutballapur 48.5 mm, Asifnagar 46.3 mm, Golkonda 40.8 mm, Zoo Park 34.8 mm, Bandlaguda 34 mm, Charminar 32.8 mm, Srinagar Colony 31.5 mm, etc.
Municipal teams worked towards clearing water stagnation at Rajendranagar, Punjagutta, Khairatabad, Malakpet, Seethaphalmandi, Kukatpally, Attapur, Yakutpura, Reinbazar, Lalapet, Ashoknagar, Quthbullapur, Suchitra junction and so on.
