Chief Secretary P.K. Mohanty is believed to have requested Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan to relieve him of his responsibilities by May-end, though the Centre extended his services till June-end.
The request submitted to the Governor 10 days ago has been approved, it is learnt.
Mr. Mohanty, who was to retire on attaining superannuation on February 28, was given a four-month extension by the Centre as he had already initiated work on State reorganisation. At the time of extending his service, the Centre had not yet announced the appointed day.

The Centre apparently wanted him to complete the reorganisation. Subsequently, the Centre had notified the appointed day as June 2 for formation of Telangana State.
According to the State Reorganisation Act, two State Governments, two Chief Ministers, two Chief Secretaries and two DGPs should be in place by the appointed day of June 2.
