Over-enthusiasm of some journalists left a constable at Amberpet Central Police Lines embarrassed on Thursday as they circulated and telecast his photo on Thursday, mistaking it for that of Obulesu wanted in KBR park firing case.
It all started with some newspaper websites posting stories that Obulesu, accused of firing at corporate honcho K. Nityananda Reddy and attempting to kidnap him at KBR park in Banjara Hills, was caught in Anantapur in the early hours of Thursday. Within a couple of hours, some journalists secured the photo of a person in dark complexion with slightly curly hair and started circulating it through messenger service.
Some more started posting it on WhatsApp. Within minutes, it got circulated to several people. As some TV news channels telecast the photo, reporters residing in Amberpet went to the CPL office for further details. Only then did they realise that the photo being circulated online and telecast in TV channels was of mistaken identity.

“Sir, my name is also Obulesu and I am too working at CPL. But I am not the Obulesu suspected to have been involved in the firing case. Name is same but we are two different persons,” he told the reporters.
By evening, it dawned on everyone that the photo circulated earlier was not that of Obulesu involved in the firing case. Interestingly, a Telugu TV news channel started telecasting live show with the ‘innocent’ Obulesu minutes around 9 p.m. soon after the police sources confirmed that the Obulesu involved in the firing case was caught at Kurnool.
