Minorities seek more seats

November 14, 2018 10:53 pm | Updated 10:53 pm IST - Hyderabad

Muslim minority aspirants from the Congress are anguished with the poor representation to Muslim candidates in the two lists released by the party so far.

A group of aspirants and senior leaders from the party, who were surprised to see their names missing from the lists, said they expected more from the party after AICC president Rahul Gandhi himself assured that representations to minorities would increase this time. However, so far only four candidates have found place in the two lists.

TPCC vice president Abid Rasool Khan and Aamer Zaveed said they expected more seats as TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy too was keen. However, the numbers so far don’t reflect a positive scenario. They said Muslims are with the Congress as they feel TRS is aligned with the BJP and it was party’s responsibility that the community be taken into confidence and give more opportunities. When other community leaders were called to Delhi for discussions the minorities were ignored, they felt and said they . The aspirants say they were protesting democratically to bring the issue to the notice of the high command.
